Phosy Thalang Guesthouse and Restaurant
Phosy Thalang Guesthouse is one of the two options to stay at this section of The Thakhek Loop, and while the rooms are good, there are far better reasons to visit.
Firstly Phosy Thalang Restaurant is amazing, serving a surprising range of delicious food right on the water’s edge. The views are great, with the open air restaurant allowing for a fresh breeze to blow through. It is quite elevated here, so it does get a little chilly during the colder months of the year.
Secondly the host, Ms. Amphai, is excellent. We stayed for a couple of nights, and were lucky enough to have her as our guide for the day, and she was exceptional. Very friendly, helpful, informative and great with the kids. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Phosy Thalang Trekking
One of the main reasons for visiting here is the opportunity to explore the Nakai Nam Theun National Park. Amphai and her team offer 1, 2 and 3 day trekking options to explore the national park on water and on foot. Click on the images below for full details of these packages.
We did the one day trek (2 adults, 2 kids ages 6 and 10) and we loved it. A couple of hours on the boat crossing the reservoir with its ghostly trees was followed by a visit to a local village where we learnt more about daily life and the national park. From here we continued upriver, with frequent sightings of macaques on the banks. A delicious picnic lunch on the sandbanks, was followed by a fun, 2km trek up to hidden waterfall.
If you are keen to book a trek (best done in advance), then you can reach Ms. Amphai and her team at Phosy Thalang through www.facebook.com/PhosyThalangGuesthouse/
