Join Kyle and Maria in this Vang Vieng Travel Guide, exploring the caves, lagoons and the amazing hot air balloons over Vang Vieng in Laos.
Vang Vieng is the adventure centre of Laos, a country that offers a surprising amount of adventure opportunities. Long famed for its tubing, which is still a great way to spend a chilled day in Vang Vieng, there is so much more to experience.
Hot-air ballooning over Vang Vieng’s karst limestone peaks is a great way to take in the sights. Sunrise and sunset trips are both available. The hot air balloons over Vang Vieng make it onto our Top 10 Photogenic Locations in Laos list as well.
For anyone up for it, the Vang Vieng Challenge includes trekking, a via-ferrata, abseiling down a waterfall, 11 zip lines and spending the night in a mountain top hut.
Not to me missed are the Blue Lagoons, best explored by the ATVs available for hire in Vang Vieng. Hidden behind the karst limestone mountains are a series of blue lagoons that can explored over 1-2 days and are ideal for swimming, chilling and relaxing.
While in Vang Vieng, make sure you trek to the Nam Xay Viewpoint. It’s about a 20 minutes drive from Vang Vieng town, located near Blue Lagoon 1. The hike takes about 30 minutes depending on your fitness level. It can get muddy in rainy season – make sure to wear good shoes, since it does get very steep and slippery at times. There are handrails available for some of the more difficult parts.
