Trekking and Kayaking in Luang Namtha

Follow the Married Wanders as they trek and kayak through the Nam Ha Protected Area outside of Luang Namtha on this 2 day / 1 night kayaking and trekking tour.  Join them as they visit local markets, forage for food in the forests, catch their own lunch and explore the sights and sounds of the Nam Ha.

Luang Namtha is the name of both the Province and the main town.  The province has a very rich cultural history with over 20 different ethnic groups calling it home, including the Akha, Lanten, Yao, Black Tai and Lahu.  On top of this, the Nam Ha Protected Area provides some amazing nature-based activities including trekking, biking and kayaking along its waterways.  Available from Luang Namtha town, there are a number of multi-day tours (mostly 2-3 days) which combine exploring the nature with the culture – through village homestays along the way.  This is a fantastic way to get to see the more traditional aspects of rural Lao life.

There are several options for getting here in addition to the direct flights from Vientiane.  You could enter via the Thailand border north of Chiang Rai via Huay Xai, which gives the opportunity for the Gibbon Experience and a visit to Vieng Phouka enroute. Alternatively if heading up from Luang Prabang, you could stop off along the way in Oudomxay to visit the beautiful Namkat Yorlapa.  Coming from China?  Its just a few hours from the border at Boten.
